The Midwest Homeless Adolescent Research Projects represent the cumulative efforts, products, and ongoing research associated with two major studies of homeless and runaway youth being conducted by a research team, under the direction of Dr. Les Whitbeck, at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln.
The intial research project was a cross-sectional survey of over 600 youth from four midwestern states. Data collection on this effort, the Midwest Homeless and Runaway Adolescent Project (MHRAP), was completed in late 1996.
A second study, the Midwest Longitudinal Study of Homeless Adolescents (MLSHA) is a three year study of 400 homeless youth in this same area of the country. As of February 2001, we have completed the first year of data collection on this project. The youth in this study, intially aged 16 to 19 will be interviewed every three months for three years.
In addition to the work in the Midwest, we have been involved in collaborative research on homeless and runaway youth with Dr. Ana Mari Cauce at the University of Washington.
The links at the left of this provide additional information on each of these research efforts.
